2nd STERILIZATION CAMPAIGN WITH PANAMA CITYMAYOR'S OFFICE
LAS GARZAS OF PACORA
What do you see at the side of the road to Las Garzas?: A LARGE QUANTITY OF SICK AND SKINNY ANIMALS.
Thanks
to the support of the Junta Comunal of San Martin, Social Development
Program, the Mayor's Office of Panama City covered 28% of the cost to
sterilize 75 animals on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
The goal was to
sterilize, deworm and vaccinate 75 animals, but the campaign was such a
success that at the end of the day, 165 animals were sterilized in six hours.

When
it became obvious that over 75 animals were going to be sterilized, the
Mayor's Office requested that NO MORE ANIMALS BE TREATED.
No way was SPAY/PANAMA going to STOP. After much discussion
with ARNULFO "TONY" AGUILAR, advisor to the Mayor and JOCELYN the
new person in charge of the Mobile Mayor's Office, we were allowed to
treat ALL the animals in the waiting line; they said they would help
subsidize the extra operations over the original goal of 75.

149
DOGS AND 16 CATS WERE STERILIZED, DEWORMED, INJECTED WITH VITAMINS, HAD
THEIR EARS CLEANED, SPRAYED AGAINST FLEAS AND TICKS AND THE DOGS GOT
VACCINATED.

THESE
ANIMALS WILL HAVE A BETTER LIFE AND THEY WILL NOT BE THE SOURCE OF MORE
PUPPIES AND KITTENS THAT WILL END HOMELESS DYING SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY.

The
Spay/Panama veterinarians practice the QUICK SPAY METHOD which includes
operating animals less than 1 pound of weight, females in heat, just
given birth, pregnant and CRYPTORCHID males. The incisions are very
small and less invasive and stainless steel suture is used because it
is strong and non-reactive.

Of
the 149 dogs sterilized, 104 were female and of the 16 cats operated, 9
were female. By sterilizing 165 animals, we have avoided
6,968,000 puppies to be born in six years and 3,330,828 kittens in
seven years

crew that were quite distracting and kept getting in our way.
Hope they get the message across that more needs to be done for
the animals.
