More
than a report for a sterilization campaign, this is an essay of my
experience at this blitz. You see, I am a person that aims
towards perfection even though we live in an imperfect world.
Every time we do a blitz, I plan and prepare to the last detail, weeks
in advance.

For
this blitz, I took the attitude of 'que sera, sera'. Swear that I
didn't smoke anything. We only had four volunteers, including
me and three vets. We became more efficient with less, thank God the assembly
line concept is embedded in our minds.

The ads were put up two days before the blitz.
44 animals showed up with no appointment.
At the registry I asked when was the last meal and almost all said the same morning.
I asked my doctor if he had taken my suggestion not to bring the anesthesia machine and he said no, he forgot it.
We had loud music, which drives me crazy, yet I could hear everybody humming and my vet knew the words of almost all the songs.
Had
my first popsicle in a plastic bag. It takes practice to know how
much to squeeze the bag for the melted juice to come up to the border
without gushing out. I made a big mess, had juice on the
register, on my scrubs, on my toes....but ahh so refreshing.

Yes,
this was quite an experience. Most importantly, we improved the
lives of 40 dogs and 4 cats and their guardians. All done
from 9am to 1pm and by 1:30pm we were packed and out. This small crew
is so upbeat that they are talking on doing more “swift” blitzes.
Now I just need to master how to properly have a popsicle in a plastic
bag and either get earplugs or learn the lyrics and sing along.

Twins, Mirian and Ana...great rescuers
Help
us reach more animals. Some people should never get a pet.
It is heartbreaking to see so many sad and cruel cases.
With your support we can make a difference. A female dog and her
off springs can be the source of 67,000 puppies in six years. At
this blitz, of the 44 animals sterilized, 33 were female dogs, so we
have avoided bringing to this community 2,211,000 puppies in six years.
