At the crack of dawn of September 30, 2007, four veterinarians and eight assistants headed to Piriati, Alto Bayano.  Leading the way were Marbelina, Eduardo and Franklin.  Al amanecer del 30 de septiembre de 2007, cuatro veterinarios y ocho asistentes salieron hacia Piriatí de Alto Bayano.  Los guias fueron Marbelina, Eduardo y Franklin.


Alto Bayano is made up by three Embera Indian communities:  Piriati, Ipeti y Maje.  Chief Bolivar Jaripio authorized the blitz to take place and brought his three dogs to be sterilized.  Reverend Bienvenido Cunampio let us use the church area to do the operations.   Alto Bayano lo compone tres comunidades Emberá:  Piriatí, Ipetí y Majé.  El Cacique Bolívar Jaripio dio su aprobación para que se hiciera la campaña de operaciones y trajo sus tres perros para ser esterilizados.  El Pastor Bienvenido Cunampio nos dejó usar un área de la iglesia para hacer las operaciones.


Alberto & Anibal weighed and registered the dogs.   Alberto y Anibal registraron y pesaron los perros.


Olga did the anesthesia.   Olga dio la anestesia.

Stephanie, Juan Francisco and Quiriat did the pre-surgery preparation, which included tattooing one ear, shaving, giving the correct dosage of antibiotic and pain medication, cleaning incision area and evaluating animal for existing wounds, infections, and general condition.   Stepanie, Juan Francisco and Quiriat hicieron la pre-cirugía que incluye, tatuar una oreja, afeitar, dar la dosis correcta de antibiótico y analgésico, limpiar el área de incisión y evaluar el animal por heridas e infecciones existentes.

Post-op care was under the responsibility of Jessica and Rebeca and they had a a very willing crew helping out.   El cuidado post-operatorio estaba bajo la responsabilidad de Rebeca y Jessica, y ellos tenían una cuadrilla muy dispuesta a ayudar.


Bunker was the first dog sterilized and he came back in an hour to see how things were advancing; 40 dogs were sterilized.   Bunker fue el primer perro esterilizado y regresó a la hora para ver como las cosas estaban avanzando.  Se operaron 40 perros.
