Nos llegó la terrible noticia que estaban usando veneno en el hipódromo para controlar el número de animales.  Así que el viernes 15 de diciembre de 2006, cinco médicos veterinarios participaron en una gira de esterilización en el Hipódromo:  Dr. René Guajardo, Dra. Letty de Guajardo, Dra. Raquel Fuster, Dra. Isis Johnson-Brown, y Dr. Darrell Gueulette.  Les asistieron los voluntarios de Spay/Panamá y 8 estudiantes de la Escuela Veterinaria, Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria.

We were informed the terrible news that the race track was using poison to control the number of animals, so on Friday December 15, 2006, five veterinarians participated in a sterilization blitz at the horce race track:  Dr. Rene Guajardo, Dr. Letty Guajardo, Dr. Raquel Fuster, Dr. Isis Johnson-Brown and Dr. Darrell Gueulette.  They were assisted by volunteers from Spay/Panama and 8 students from the Veterinarian School of the University of Panama.  

Spay/Panamá usa el método de la incisión pequeña y utiliza sutura de acero inoxidable que no causa reacción, es fuerte y no necesita removerse.  Spay/Panama does the small incision procedure and uses stainless steel suture, which causes no reaction, is strong and does not need to be removed.

Jóvenes con sentido de responsabilidad para hacer de Panamá un mejor lugar para todos, incluyendo los animales, se dan de voluntarios en la Fundación.  Youths with a sense of responsibility to make of Panama a better place for all, including the animals are volunteers  in Spay/Panama

Contamos con 21 paquetes de instrumentos quirúrgicos y el hipódromo nos permitió usar su autoclave.  We have 21 spay packs and the race track  let us use their autoclave.

 

Todos los voluntarios saben que juegan un papel importante para que el proyecto sea un éxito y se ayude a la mayor cantidad de animales.  All the volunteers know that they play an important role for the blitz to be successful and allow us to reach  more animals.

 

Los estudiantes de veterinaria recorrieron todo el hipódromo una semana antes del evento para hacer el censo y fueron categóricos en traer los animales.  Según la información recaudada se esterilizaron menos del 50% de la población canina y felina del Hipódromo.  The vet students visited the race track one week before the event to  count the animals and  they  picked up the  dogs and cats from the stables to bring them to the surgery site.  According to their census, less than 50% of the dog and cat population at the race track were sterilized.

 

Los estudiantes de veterinaria tuvieron la oportunidad de ver en primera fila las operaciones.  Solo médicos veterinarios estás autorizados a operar dentro del programa de Spay/Panamá.  The vet students had the opportunity to observe the surgeries.  Only  veterinarians are allowed to operate  in Spay/Panama program.

 

Una perra intacta y su descendencia en 6 años pueden traer al mundo 67,000 perritos.  In six years, a female dog and her off springs can be the source of 67,000 puppies.

Los gatos del Hipódromo NO DEBEN SER ELIMINADOS porque el habitat se llena rápidamente con ratas o alimañas, pero los gatos deben ser esterilizados para controlar su reproducción.  Apóyenos para continuar operando los animales del Hipódromo.  The cats at the race track SHOULD NOT BE ELIMINATED because they will be replaced rapidly by rats and other animals; however, the cats should be sterillized to control their reproduction.  Help us continue spaying/neutering the animals at the race track.
